John’s old crown had worn away, revealing a dark colour, and missing back teeth were causing his front teeth to be at risk of wear. After choosing to replace his crown and getting chrome dentures, John regained comfort and functionality, protecting his remaining teeth and improving his overall health.

Before
After

John came to us concerned about an old crown that had turned black. Upon examination, we found that he had a porcelain-fused-to-metal crown, and the layer that masked the metal had started to wear away, causing the dark colour to appear. Additionally, we noticed that John was missing several back teeth, which caused too much pressure on his front teeth.

The Treatment Plan:

After discussing all his options, John chose to replace the old crown and get upper and lower chrome dentures.

Why Chrome Dentures?

Chrome dentures have several benefits:

  • Less Bulky: They are thinner and can be designed smaller than acrylic dentures, making them more comfortable to wear.
  • More Hygienic: Unlike acrylic, which is a porous material, chrome dentures are less likely to harbour a biofilm of bacteria, fungi and viruses. This reduces the risk of bad breath, tooth decay, and gum disease.

Denture Care:

It's important to clean all types of dentures thoroughly every morning and night and after every meal. To keep them fully disinfected, they should also be soaked weekly in a denture medicated solution.

Why Replacing Missing Teeth Matters:

Replacing missing teeth can be a crucial means for preventing excessive wear on the remaining teeth. Overworking teeth can cause them to wear down and lead to further dental problems. Additionally, a complete set of teeth supports proper nutrition, which is vital for overall health. Malnutrition can lead to various health conditions, including mental health issues, heart disease, and bone disease, to mention a few.
